Shire of Mundaring is located in the Perth Hills on the eastern fringe of the metropolitan area. The shire is a predominantly rural area, with residential areas in numerous townships. It encompasses a total land area of 644sqkm, of which almost half is National Park, State Forest or water catchments.

The workforce comprises over 200 employees across five directorates located in a number of service points throughout the district.

The Shire recognises the role the workplace has in preventing poor health and lifestyle-related diseases. It aims to create a workplace environment that supports and encourages healthy lifestyles and participation in education and activities to improve employee health and productivity.

Health and Wellbeing Achievements

The Shire of Mundaring received Silver Recognition for the following initiatives:

  • Implementation of Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework and comprehensive Action Plan which is reviewed and updated annually
  • Implements a Smoke-free workplace policy
  • Provides an environment that supports physical activity before, during and after work, including end of trip facilities and flexible working arrangements
  • Implements strategies to reduce sitting time for employees in sedentary roles
  • Provides education and awareness-raising activities 
  • Provide opportunities for workers to participate in a range of healthy activities
  • Allocates resources to the staff health and wellbeing program and provides staff benefits such as free skin cancer screening, flu vaccinations, health assessments and blood tests for employees.
  • Consults widely with staff in the development of health and wellbeing initiatives
