BeUpstanding is an evidence based workplace initiative for getting Aussie workers to stand up, sit less and move more. The Champion Toolkit – is 100% free, and has everything you need to run your very own BeUpstanding workplace program. As part of a fully guided process, the Champion Toolkit contains posters, videos, email templates, surveys and more.
With over 10 years of research, the evidence is clear. Long periods of sitting have serious health consequences. Too much sitting is associated with an increased risk of being overweight, type 2 diabetes, some cancers and depression. The good news is that adults who sit less throughout the day have a lower risk of illness and early death, particularly from heart disease.
Even if you are active outside of work, too much sitting can be detrimental for your health and wellbeing. We now know that the benefits are greatest for people who sit less AND move more.
All you need is a Champion who can dedicate ~30 mins per week for the next 3 months, a support team, and the backing of management to get behind the program and lead by example. That’s it!
