Alcoa Mining Operations

Workplace profile

Alcoa is a primary producer of aluminium, with the process starting at their Huntly and Willowdale bauxite mines in WA. The Huntly mine is the world’s largest bauxite mine and these two mines combined supply bauxite to the state's refineries, where the alumina is extracted. Alcoa mining operations employ more than 800 staff in WA alone.

Health and wellbeing achievements

Alcoa’s wellness committee meets monthly to discuss opportunities across their sites. They have developed a health and wellbeing action plan to guide future activities. The group evaluates each of their initiatives so they can improve the program and celebrate success.

The company has made some big commitments to support healthy behaviour change by encouraging involvement in quit smoking courses, a greatest loser competition and the Global Corporate Challenge. Alcoa continues to engage staff with healthy messages via noticeboards, email alerts, posters, crib room folders and health toolbox sessions.
