The City of Subiaco is a progressive inner city local government known for its retail, hospitality and entertainment sector as well as its attractive environment and streetscapes. The City has over 200 staff which are spread over five different physical locations, providing services including but not limited to parks maintenance, recycling and waste, recreation services, library and museum, building and planning approvals and more.   

Workplace Health and Wellbeing Profile

The City of Subiaco's workplace health and wellbeing program has been running for 8 years and is coordinated by the City's People and Organisational Development branch. Through its Wellness Program, the City encourages employees to undertake activities to assist in their own general health, fitness and wellbeing. In October 2019 the City of Subiaco renewed it's recognition as a Gold Recognised Healthy Workplace. Congratulations City of Subiaco.  

Planning

Following management endorsement and ongoing support from senior management, the City identified a Health and Wellbeing Coordinator to oversee and plan the workplace health and wellbeing program. After undertaking the HWWA Coordinator Training and staff consultation, the City developed its workplace health and wellbeing action plan

"The City acknowledges the benefits of the program to support our people to deliver better performance for the community.  After gaining initial management endorsement, the wellness program has had strong ongoing support from senior management due to the positive results," says the City's Health and Wellbeing Coordinator.


Health and Wellbeing Program Activities

City of Subiaco's workplace health and wellbeing program includes the following initiatives and activities:  

  • Dedicated Program Coordinator 
  • Information about smoking cessation support resources and and education for staff
  • Healthy Eating and Catering Guidelines regarding the provision of healthy food options at catered staff events 
  • Event Management Manual regarding the provision of alcohol at staff events 
  • End of trip facilities including showers, bike racks and lockers.
  • Online Wellness Portal regarding modifiable (SNAP) lifestyle risk factors and other health related information
  • Discounted yearly gym membership and access to fitness classes during physical activity campaigns
  • Opportunity to participate in physical activity events with a subsidised fee, such as City to Surf, HBF Run for a Reason, 10,000 Steps Walking Challenge and Bike to Work Breakfast 
  • Sit stand work stations
  • Individual health assessments, including flu vaccinations and skin checks

"In general, the health and wellness program and its initiatives, lift morale and assist employees to manage their own health and reactions to stress enabling them to focus on their work better," says the City's Health and Wellbeing Coordinator.
