Workplace Profile

The City of Subiaco has over 200 staff which are spread over five different physical locations, each providing a specific service. 

The services that the City of Subiaco provide includes but is not limited to parks maintenance, recycling and waste, recreation services, library and museum, building and planning approvals and more. 

The City encourages employees through its Staff Wellness Program to undertake activities to assist in their own general health, fitness and wellbeing.  

Health and Wellbeing Achievements

  • Have a detailed Wellness Framework, Action Plan and Calendar which outlines the strategies they are going to implement over the next 12 months. 
  • Have a dedicated team and budget to implement their program.
  • Include "Health and Wellness" as a standing agenda item at all Management meetings.
  • Smoke-free workplace and provide assistance to smokers who wish to quit.
  • Provide adequate supplies of low alcohol and non alcoholic beverages (including water) at work functions where alcohol is available. In addition, staff are only provided with one standard drink per hour. 
  • Have Healthy Eating and Catering Guidelines to ensure that healthy food and drink options are available at all work related meetings, functions and events where food is served.
  • Well equipped lunch room facilities to encourage workers to bring healthy lunches from home.
  • End of trip facilities including showers, bike racks and lockers.
  • Flexible work hours. 
  • Have a TravelSmart Action Plan and encourage staff to actively commute (walk, cycle and catch public transport) to and from work and off-site meetings. 
  • Offer $9/day sustainable travel allowance (after tax) to encourage staff to use a sustainable form of transport to get to and from work. This includes walking, cycling and catching public transport.
  • Free access to pool electric bikes.
  • SmartRider cards available for staff to use to attend off-site meetings to encourage active transport throughout the day. 
  • Discounted and salary sacrificed gym memberships at Lords Recreation Centre (the City and the individual staff member each contribute 50%).
  • Provide lunch and learn seminars which aim to educate workers on a range of health topics. Example sessions include nutrition and weight management, how to read food labels and healthy cooking demonstrations.
  • Provide free health assessments and blood tests for workers.
  • Provide free fitness classes to staff members.   
  • Subsidise team participation in physical activity events such as City to Surf and HBF Run for a Reason. 
  • Provide free fruit baskets with organic produce. 
  • Have a wellness board which includes a range of regular newsletters and posters to raise awareness on specifc health issues. 
  • Consult with staff and conduct employee wellness surveys on a regular basis. Feedback from these surveys are used to inform and improve future wellness initiatives.
