The Dobbie Dico Meter Company is a modern, innovative Australian owned foundry and engineering facility located in Malaga, Perth WA. Established in 1940, Dobbie has been manufacturing Waterworks Fittings & Valves, Fire Protection Equipment and Castings for the Mining & Locomotion Industries in Australia and New Zealand for more than 75 years. Dobbie has 70 highly skilled and dedicated staff of technical, administrative and tradespeople engaged in the design, manufacture, machining and distribution of our products. Dobbie continually strives to promote a safe, productive, healthy and ethical workplace environment.
Dobbie's Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program is overseen by the OHSE Coordinator and has been running for more than 3 years. In 2016 Dobbie was Recognised as a Bronze Healthy Workplace. After expanding on their Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program activities, which included working with staff over a 12 month period to eliminate all designated smoking areas, in 2019 Dobbie transitioned to Gold Recognition. Congratulations Dobbie.
Dobbie commenced their Workplace Healthy and Wellbeing Program with launching a General Management statement and Policy in regards to staff health and wellbeing. A Health and Wellbeing Coordinator was appointed and undertook HWWA Coordinator Training. Following this, health and wellbeing committee members were recruited and staff consultation was undertaken to assess health and wellbeing needs of the workplace, and goals for the future. Finally, a Workplace Health and Wellbeing Action Plan addressing smoking, nutrition, alcohol and physical activity was developed.
Dobbie's Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program include the following initiatives and activities:
"Fried and deep-fried food options are no longer available at Dobbie. These options have been replaced by roasted, grilled and raw food options," says Erick Campello, OHSE Coordinator.
Since launching their Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program and transitioning to a Gold Recognised Healthy Workplace, Dobbie has observed: significant improvement in employee's enthusiasm, morale and attitudes; increase in work productivity; and a decline in absenteeism and injury rates.
"Dobbie employees experience a physically demanding and stressful workload. Investing in the health and wellbeing of our employees has delivered improvement with participant‘s enthusiasm and attitude and influenced other staff members to join the program. Previously as a Bronze recognized company, Dobbie enjoyed a major improvement in employees morale and production, now with improved and proactive actions, we hope to improve not only physical but also the mental health of our employees."
