Health and Wellbeing Profile

Dobbie's Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program is overseen by the OHSE Coordinator and has been running for more than 3 years. In 2016 Dobbie was Recognised as a Bronze Healthy Workplace. After expanding on their Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program activities, which included working with staff over a 12 month period to eliminate all designated smoking areas, in 2019 Dobbie transitioned to Gold Recognition. Congratulations Dobbie.

Planning

Dobbie commenced their Workplace Healthy and Wellbeing Program with launching a General Management statement and Policy in regards to staff health and wellbeing. A Health and Wellbeing Coordinator was appointed and undertook HWWA Coordinator Training. Following this, health and wellbeing committee members were recruited and staff consultation was undertaken to assess health and wellbeing needs of the workplace, and goals for the future. Finally, a Workplace Health and Wellbeing Action Plan addressing smoking, nutrition, alcohol and physical activity was developed.

Health and Wellbeing Highlights

Dobbie's Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program include the following initiatives and activities:

  • Smoke-free workplace policy with no designated smoking areas, supported by the provision of free smoking cessation support for employees wishing to quit smoking or cut down
  • Alcohol-related Guidelines which state no more than two standard drinks per employee be provided at staff social events
  • Kitchen and cooking facilities for staff to prepare and store fresh food
  • Review of on-site vending machines and healthier options introduced (such as water and cheese)
  • Preferred healthy caterer identified and healthy recipes distributed to staff
  • Flexible working hours and end of trip facilities such as shower, change facilities and secure bike racks to encourage and support physical activity before, during and after work
  • Distributing Health Works E-newsletters and including health and wellbeing as a standard agenda item at ToolBox and Committee meetings

"Fried and deep-fried food options are no longer available at Dobbie. These options have been replaced by roasted, grilled and raw food options," says Erick Campello, OHSE Coordinator.

Since launching their Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program and transitioning to a Gold Recognised Healthy Workplace, Dobbie has observed: significant improvement in employee's enthusiasm, morale and attitudes; increase in work productivity; and a decline in absenteeism and injury rates.
