MercyCare is a leading Catholic provider of aged care, family, health, disability and community services. They employ over 1000 staff and 175 volunteers, delivering more than 40 programs and services, from 35 locations throughout Western Australia.

Health & Wellbeing Highlights

MercyCare are committed to the health and wellbeing of their staff and volunteers, and received Gold recognition for implementing the following:

  • Detailed action plan outlining key strategies for implementation over the next 12 months
  • Dedicated Health and Wellbeing Coordinator to drive and implement the program
  • Standing agenda item to discuss health and wellbeing at Occupational Health and Safety meetings
  • Smoke-free workplace policy which is supported by free education sessions and support services to assist employees and volunteers to quit
  • Well equipped kitchen and lunch room facilities to encourage and support staff to prepare healthy meals at work and bring food from home
  • Induction booklet which contains information on public transport options and promotes the benefits of active transport (cycling, walking and/or catching public transport to and from work)
  • End of journey facilities to encourage and support physical activity and active transport, including showers, changing rooms, lockers, clothes rack and secure bike storage
  • Sit-stand workstations and a standing meeting room at the central office which can be utilised by all staff and volunteers to break up sitting time
  • Ongoing evaluation via staff surveys to promote continuous improvement of their program
  • Education sessions on a range of health topics
  • Distributing monthly Health Works newsletter to all staff
  • Lunch time walking group and free exercise classes
  • Get Active Challenge to encourage staff to complete at least 10,000 steps a day over a six-week period
  • Promoting and encouraging staff to participate in Bike Week events, Ride to Work day and Walk to Work day
  • Lunch time yoga session as part of Stress Down Day
  • Reimbursing registration fees for staff to participate in HBF Run for a Reason if they raised a specific amount of money for MercyCare
  • Free health checks, flu vaccinations and skin cancer checks
