Workplace Profile

The Nintirri Centre Inc is a not-for-profit organisation based in Tom Price delivering community services across six core strategic areas of: community health and wellbeing; early years care and education; supporting communities, individuals and families; arts, culture and tourism development; family violence and counselling; and social, business and economic development.

Nintirri has been operating for more than 30 years and employs 35 staff members who deliver programs and activities to the local community. With the aim of creating resilient places where people can live safe, healthy and empowered lives in the Pilbara, Nintirri is a diverse organisation with well-established community relationships and partnerships. 

Health and Wellbeing Profile

The Nintirri Centre Inc Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program has been running for nearly 5 years and is coordinated by a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Team. In July 2019 Nintirri became a Bronze Recognised Healthy Workplace.

Planning

In addition to consultation with staff, the Health and Wellbeing Team works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Operations Manager and Resource Manager to create policies and procedures regarding healthy workplace strategies. Completion of the online HWWA Coordinator Training and the workplace health check were both key steps taken by the Health and Wellbeing Coordinator when planning for the workplace health and wellbeing program.  

Health and Wellbeing Program Activities

The Nintirri Centre Inc Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program encompasses a range of different strategies. Examples of activities implemented and key achievements include: 

  • Dedicated Program Coordinator 
  • No-Smoking Policy
  • Healthy Eating Policy and Guidelines for food options and catering at staff events and functions (including no soft drink policy) 
  • Staff education and awareness raising workshops regarding health eating and drinking
  • Sit-Stand workstation (hot desk) to help target sendentary behviour
  • Subsidised exercise classes for staff and flexible working arrangements
  • Healthy prizes as incentives for staff to participate in health and wellbeing activities  
  • Regular Staff E-newsletters regarding health and wellbeing information
  • Offers healthy gifts and prizes as incentives for staff participation

The Nintirri Centre Inc is now working towards expanding their Workplace Health and Wellbeing Program and transitioning to a higher Recognition level.
