Workplace Profile

The Town of Victoria Park is a vibrant and diverse urban community located on the south side of the Swan River, only 10 minutes from Perth’s CBD. The Town is home to the new Optus Stadium, Burswood Peninsula, Perth Racing and West Coast Eagles at Lathlain Park.

Made up of several suburbs, the Town promotes a ‘vibrant lifestyle’ and its vision for the future is to foster a creative, attractive, friendly and environmentally sustainable place for members of the local community to live, work and play.

Health and Wellbeing Profile

Town of Victoria Park's workplace health and wellbeing program, titled Well@Work, is coordinated by the Town's Healthy Community team. In July 2019 the Town of Victoria Park became a Silver Recognised Healthy Workplace. Congratulations Town of Victoria Park. 

"The Healthy Community team is responsible for delivering health and wellbeing services to the wider community at the Town of Victoria Park, so it seemed a good fit for the team to take on board the role of providing health and wellbeing to staff."   

Planning

Following completion of the HWWA Coordinator Training and undertaking staff consultation, the Healthy Community team identified a range of health and wellbeing strategies and initiatives for the Town's workplace health and wellbeing program, including the development of an action plan, health and wellbeing policies and a year round calendar of events. In addition, the Town carries out annual surveys, end of program surveys and individual health assessments to evaluate and help shape the program for future years. 

"Following staff health checks and engagement survey results, the HWWA Action Plan template helped shape and focus health and wellbeing strategies around the areas of smoking, nutrition, alcohol and physical activity."

Health and Wellbeing Program Activities

Town of Victoria Park's Well@Work Program encompasses a wide range of different strategies and activities, such as:  

  • Dedicated Program Coordinator to oversee and implement program activities
  • Healthy eating and drinking guidelines and distribution of LiveLighter resources
  • Free gym and pool use
  • End of trip facilities to encourage staff to be involved in physical activity before, during and after work
  • Fortnightly delivery of fresh fruit to all six (out centre) sites
  • Lunch and Learn sessions covering a range of health and wellbeing topics, such as nutrition and healthy cooking demonstrations 
  • Lunch time yoga and walking groups
  • Health assessments, skin screening and flu vaccinations
  • Access to pool electric bikes
  • A tailored stretching program for different teams' requirements (originally called "Mobility March") which can be any time of the day
  • Mental health week initiatives

"To increase staff participation, getting senior management support is highly beneficial to convince employees the value of taking part in offered health and wellbeing events."

The Town of Victoria Park is now working towards transitioning to a higher recognition level and becoming a smoke free workplace.
