WorkCover WA is the government agency responsible for managing the workers' compensation and injury management scheme in Western Australia. Its purpose is to lead a contemporary, healthy and integrated worker's compensation scheme that is fair, accessible and cost-effective for all stakeholders.
WorkCover WA aims to create a healthy and flexible workplace for staff and encourages a work-life balance through its initiatives and legislative agreements. WorkCover WA's workplace health and wellbeing program is coordinated by the Human Resources department and has been running for over 15 years.
After previously receiving Bronze Recognition, in 2019 WorkCover WA was recognised as a Silver Healthy Workplace. Congratulations WorkCover WA.
Following support from Senior Management and consultation with all staff, the health and wellbeing coordinator undertook HWWA Coordinator Training and developed a health and Wellbeing Action Plan addressing smoking, nutrition, alcohol and physical activity. Health and Wellness Champs were recruited to generate fresh ideas and promote health and wellness initiatives throughout the workplace.
To make the transition from Bronze to Silver Recognition, WorkCover WA reviewed and updated its Healthy Eating and Catering Policy, promoted the HWWA toolbox resource, provided smoking cessation support to staff and carried out nutritional educational sessions for employees. In addition, WorkCover WA conducted evaluation and staff consultation via online surveys to help plan for the future.
